2. Johannes HUYCK (Hendric1) was born on 18 Apr 1617 in Groot St, Gelderland, Nymegen, Netherlands.
General Notes: [ACD] Johannes "accompanied his brother-in-law Pieter Minuit to America in
1617." (MKA) The Dutch Colony of New Netherlands was founded in 1624. It
would be interesting to discover where Johannes went in 1617.
[AF] Gives the name as Jan Huyck and that he was born 18 Apr 1617, Groot St.
Nymegan, Holland.
(SMK) Jan Huyck became Chieftan of the Groat Straat in 1617. Accompanied by
his brother-in-law, Peter Minuit, on his emigration to New Amsterdam in the
ship "Seagull" landed 4 May 1626 on Mahattan Island. He became "Koopman" or
keeper of the stores in the fort which guarded the settlement of 30 rude houses
of bark. It is stated that Jan and Peter were Wallons [sic] (Belgians) and
spoke and wrote only in French. Jan served as lay reader in Church services.
(MKA) The above comment is of some consequence. Although New Netherlands was
a Dutch Colony, the first colonists were French Hugenots who had gone to the
Netherlands for the religious freedom. It is interesting that someone who
spoke French only, should be lay reader in Church.
Johannes married Lisabeth PETERS .
General Notes: [ACD]
[AF] Spells the name Elizabeth.

Children from this marriage were:

+ 4 M    i. Andries HUYCK was born about 1647 in Kinderhook, New Netherlands.
