General Notes: His full name is James William Newcomer,
but by his mother's design has always gone by his middle
name. In so doing, it was his mother's desire to honor her
Uncle, George William Bavin, known as "Uncle Bill".

For the first 5 years of his life Bill lived with his parents and siblings
on the family farm on Tuttle Road, between Hartley and Camden Rd.,
northwest of Waldron, Michigan. Waldron is in Wright Township,
in the southeast corner of Hillsdale County, right on the Michigan -
Ohio line. This farm was owned by Bill's grandmother, Sadie (Gray) Newcomer. Guy and Sadie Newcomer had moved there in 1911, and built the existing house in 1916. As of Sept. 1997, that house is still standing and being lived in.

In the summer of 1954, the family moved around the corner to another
farm on Hartley Rd. that Rex and Mildred had bought from Claude Stevens.
That fall, Bill started kindergarten at the Prattville Elementary school.
First through Sixth grade was at the Elementary school in Waldron.

Bill graduated from the Waldron Area High School in May of 1967.
Right after graduation he went with one of his teachers and a fellow
classmate to the 1967 World's Fair in Montreal, Canada. In the fall
he started college at Michigan State University in East Lansing,
Michigan.

At Michigan State Bill went through several changes of major before
settling on a B.S. in Agricultural Economics. In his junior year at State,
he joined FarmHouse Fraternity. Is was also at this time he settled
on his basic religious convictions. His senior year he started dating
Nancy Anne Williamson.

Both Bill & Nancy graduated from Michigan State in 1971. On
June 24, 1972, at Trinity Church in East Lansing, Michigan, they
were married. They spent their first year of marriage near Hillsdale,
Michigan. In the fall of 1973 they moved to Winona Lake, Indiana
where Bill took up studies at Grace Theological Seminary.

On April 18, 1975, their first child, Sarah Beth, was born.
In the spring of 1976, Bill left the seminary, and moved his
wife and one year old daughter to the Grand Rapids, Michigan
area. On December 31, 1985, their second child, Holly Anne
was born.

Since living in the Grand Rapids area, Bill & Nancy have been members
of the Reformed Baptist Church of Grand Rapids. From time to
time both Bill & Nancy have sung in the Evangelical Choral Society
of West Michigan. Between 1982 and 1986, Bill served as a Republican
precinct delegate, and was also able to be a delegate to several of
the Michigan Republican State conventions. In 1988 he attended
the state convention as a George Bush delegate.

Since, 1979, Bill has worked at the Amway Corporation headquarters
in Ada, Michigan. He works as a Sr. Planner, doing inventory control
and production scheduling. In 1988 the family moved to Ada, Michigan,
just six miles east of Grand Rapids.
