General Notes: The path that I have followed:
I found a William Blain (we'll call him Sr to save on confusion) and Sarah Sparling married on Dec. 19, 1798 in New Brunswick, NJ (See marriage notes). (William Jr was born in Essex, NJ.)
John Blain was married in Manlius, Onondaga Co., NY July 04, 1825 to Zervilla Duncan.
William Blain (Jr) married Fanny M Hackett about 1828, this date is based on the oldest childs birth date.
Charles Blain was born in Onondaga, NY in 1814.

Rev. War Soldier Pension: John Sparling--Was sixty-five years old in 1820, served one year in a New Jersey regiment, and owned sixteen acres of wild land worth $48, but encumbered by a mortgage. He had a wife and one son, Joseph Sparling.

With William (Sr) are 2 boys under 10 (Charles and William Jr) 1 boy 10-16 (Robert) 1 male 18-26 (John) and 1 male 45> (William Sr).

1840 Census in Manlius Twp., Onondaga Co., NY lists Robert Blain and James Hudson. By this time Charles, William Jr and John have moved to Fulton Co., OH. I suspect that William Sr has died by now and Sarah went with the boys to OH. (See notes under Sarah)

Blain, William by Admr. to W. B. Goodfellow 1835 (58,183) lot 63. I believe this is the sale of William Sr.'s property after he died. This could have been what set the boys in motion toward Ohio. Looks like the Goodfellow's were associated with the Blain family for a quite a few years (note to the 1810 census).

One of the early State Gazetteers, published in 1824, gives the following description of this town:
The south part is moderately hill, the north part more level and the soil of the whole is very fertile of grain, grass, fruit, &c. In this town are abundance of mill seats, on Limestone, Chittenango and Butternut creeks, and a great number of mills...The inhabitants are immigrant Yankees, or German and Dutch, from the Mohawk river, industrious and prosperous...There are four post-offices and five "villages" known by local names. Manlius, a Post borough (or incorporated village with a post-office of same name,) is situated on Limestone creek at the junction of three or four turnpikes. It contains 100 dwellings, and about 200 buildings of all kinds, 3 churches, a Masonic Lodge, a printing office, a cotton factory, and has a great deal of hydraulic, mechanical and trading business. The Post Village of Fayetteville, 2 miles north of Manlius, on the north branch of the Seneca turnpike, has 25 houses. The Post Village of Orville, 5 miles northwest of Manlius, on the same turnpike, has about 20 houses, a church, and a side cut to the Erie canal. Eagleville, 1 1/2 miles east of Manlius, has about 20 houses. The Post Village of Jamesville, 5 miles west of Manlius, is on Butternut creek and has mills and about 35 houses...Within two miles of Manlius village (which is on the border of a deep gulf, through which flows Limestone creek) are four grain mills, 5 saw mills, 2 fulling mills, 2 carding machines, 2 nail factories, an oil mill, and a cotton and woolen factory.

A PIONEER
Closes His Life's Work. Royalton Township Loses One of Its Prominent Citizens.

One by one the pioneers of the county are laying down their life's work and entering into eternal rest. Last week William Blaine, of Royalton Township, at the age of nearly ninety-five was ushered into the great beyond. By his kind and considerate treatment of others; by his generous acts; by loyalty to his home, country and Creator, he was known as one of the ideal citizens of this county.

Mr. Blaine located in this county in 1833, shortly after the first white settlers had arrived and from that time until a few years ago he was active in clearing away the forest, draining and improving the lands of the county, building and establishing schools and churches and devoting every energy to bring about the pleasant and happy condition which we enjoy today.
He was born in Essex, NJ August 16, 1809 and when but a child moved to New York where he grew to manhood. For a number of years he was employed as a boatman on the Erie Canal.
He was united in marriage to Miss Fanny Hackett of NY and into this home came eleven children, who have grown to manhood and womanhood and who are now located throughout this county and constitute a part of its best citizens.

Sarah & Gilbert stayed on this farm (in Sylvania Twp. now) until Gilbert died then Sarah moved in with Charles.

Charles Blain purchased land in the Monroe Detroit strip 10/1/1835, he was from Monroe Co., MI.
[I believe this to be our Charles.]
William Blain purchased land in the Monroe Ohio Michigan strip 3/16/1837, he was from Monroe Co., MI [This is my William Blain, I have located this farm, the 2nd house to be built on this land is still standing. This piece of land was passed down to William's daughter Jane, then to her son, Thomas then to his son James. The property was sold in 1975 to someone outside of the family. That farm was in this family for 138 years.]

Notes to the above purchases: Charles & William both show that they are from the Monroe Co., MI area. The Toledo area back in the 1830s was included in the area know as Monroe/Detroit Land strip. Toledo was a part of Monroe Co., MI at the time of their purchases. These purchases were in the Fulton Co., Amboy Twp. area.

By George P. Monagon and George M. Liscombe published in 1877:
"Fulton Township was organized at a very early date, embracing Amboy Township. Among its first inhabitants were Hiram Bartlett, John Blain, William Blain, and Charles Blain, the mother of whom lived with her son Charles and died some three years ago at the ripe old age of one hundred years. David and Jerry Duncan, Tunis Lewis, John Lewis and Charles Welch were among the first."

From the book History of Fulton Co., OH published by Northwestern Historical Assc. 1905, Page 189:
"Among the other settlers who came to this township in 1833 were Alvah Steadman, Aaron Steadman and David Steadman (the latter being the father of Alvah and Aaron), Frank O'Neil, Charles Blain, William Blain, John Roop, Joseph Roop and Alfred Gilson. The Blains were originally from Lodi, near Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY and they first made a halt at Toledo, at a very early day, from whence they came on foot across the country westward, and settled in Amboy, then, however, under the jurisdiction of Blissfield Twp. in MI. Coming here in the fall of 1833, each of them raised large families, all of whom grew to man and womanhood and have since been respected citizens of Amboy Twp. Alvah Steadman is supposed to have been the second settler in the twp., but possibly the honor will have to be divided with John and Joseph Roop, yet Oliver B Verity is authority for the statement that the best information of the old pioneers accorded that honor to Alvah Steadman. Frank O'Neil settled where Metamora is now located and built the first cabin in that part of the twp., enjoying with his family alone the full fruits of a pioneer's life and the honor of being ahead of the other settlers.
Following the settlements of 1833, there was a large accession of the population. In 1834, David Duncan from Onondaga Co., NY; also John Blain and Jerry Duncan from the same place; Lorenso Abbott, Seneca Corbin from NY; Park White and his son David White, Jonathan Gilson, Clark Gilson, James Hallett, John Labounty, Samuel Purdy, Joseph Richey, Nathaniel Welch and Harry Welch. Park White was a native of Vermont. In the year 1835 there came Hiram Bartlett, who first emigrated from Cooperstown, Otsego Co., NY in 1826 and settled at Port Lawrence (now Toledo), and resided there nine years before coming to Amboy Twp. Calvin Skinner, Cyrus Fisher, Horatio Stevens and Caleb Remilie came from Niagara Co., NY."

For six years Mr. Blaine [Charles Jr.] served as trustee of Amboy Township, and as path master fourteen years. Some of the family ancestry were among the earliest citizens of Fulton County. John Roop, William Blain, Alfred Gilson and Aaron Stedman were pioneers of the community. The Blaine's are members of Amboy Grange and Mr. Blaine is a member of Baxter Post, Grand Army of the Republic, of Lyons. He is vice commander and has held all of the chairs except treasurer of the Post.

Myron D. Blain.
Myron D. Blain was born in New York State, Allegheny County, July 16, 1831. At the age of three years he came with his parents to Toledo, which was then a mere treading station, consisting of a few log buildings and only one frame building.
They came by boat and later traveled with an ox team as was customary for the early settlers, enduring all the hard ships and privations and dangers incident to pioneer life as he grew up with the new country.
(The family first camped on what is known as the Beulah farm, near Whiteville, Ohio and afterwards located on a farm in Fulton county.)
He was married Nov. 7, 1854, to Mary Parent by the Rev. S.D.Rogers. To this union five children were born: Josephine, who died in 1910; Samuel C. Blain of Jasper, Hattie LaPoint of Toledo, Mary Mackey of Ridgeville, and Benjamin Blain of Adrian.
Of a family of 11 children only two sisters survive him, Jane Hyland (Hallnan) and Fannie (Cordelia) Beals of Toledo. Besides these he leaves a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Loyal to his country, Mr. Blain enlisted when the Civil War broke out, in the 67th Regiment, Company F, of Ohio serving three years and three months.
Here, too, he endured untold hardships as did many of his comrades, being many times without food and comfortable clothing and exhausted by long, continued marching, all for his home, loved ones and his country.
As long as he was able he attended the soldiers reunions and looked forward to the day as one of the best days of the year.
Helping as he did in the early settling of the country, Mr. Blain took great interest in watching its progress and development and had vivid mental pictures of the past, relating names of friends, places and incidents with accuracy as though it was only yesterday. Memories of former years seemed a great comfort to him in his declining years.
His life companion was taken by death January 14, 1905, since which time he has made his home with the younger son on the farm where he settled 54 years ago, south of Jasper, Michigan.
His willingness to help in time of need made him many friends. He led a quiet, unassuming life and was known as an honest, upright citizen, a loyal friend and neighbor.
His was a life well spent and he shall surely receive the reward to which he was called Nov. 29, 1920.
The burial was made in Fairfield cemetery.

Robert Blaine, who for more than twenty years was a resident of Delta, Fulton county, Ohio and to whom death came in that town on January 19, 1918, came of a family which is placed among the pioneer families of Amboy Twp., Fulton county and which has notable record of national service during the Civil war, Robert Blaine and his four brothers all having served in the Union Army. Robert Blaine himself also should be classed among the pioneers of the county, for during his active lifetime, which with the exception of his years of war service was spent almost wholly in Fulton county, he cleared a large acreage of wild land, converting the unproductive wilderness into tillable agricultural district it is; and it was by such wholehearted personal service as that of Robert Blaine and his four brothers that the cause of the Union and of the southern slave ultimately triumphed in the severe and prolonged Civil War.
Robert Blaine was born in Amboy Twp., Fulton county, Ohio, August 7, 1837, the son of Charles and Rachel (Bertholf) Blaine. The Blaine family was in colonial days resident in New York state, and Charles Blaine and his wife were both born in that state, although it appears that soon after marriage they settled on wild land in Amboy Twp., Fulton county, Ohio, in which township all their children were born, including the five sons whose patriotic war service brought to the family such an enviable record. Charles and Rachel (Bertholf) Blaine were the parents of nine children, five sons and four daughters, five of whom are still living. The surviving children are: Charles, who lives in Amboy Twp; James, now of Wichita, Kansas; Marion of Toledo, Ohio; Elmina, who married William Driscoll, of Amboy Twp.; and Emily, who married Thomas Stedman, of Amboy Twp. And lives in the old Blaine homestead in that township.
Robert Blaine, born and reared in Amboy Twp. Attended the district school nearest to his father's farm, although the school term in those days was short, the vacation extending through practically the whole of the growing season, during which Robert as a boy did much agricultural work. When he finally left school he took good part with brothers in the work of the home farm, which was for the most part timber land. He married when he was twenty-one years old and after taking this step he also began to farm independently, but the farm to which he took his wife was at that time all wild timber land, with just sufficient cleared space to permit of the erection of a log cabin. The early married life of Robert Blaine and his wife was passed under the rigorous conditions of the pioneer. But he was a sturdy pioneer and during the next few years cleared quite a satisfactory acreage of his farm. He had been married four years when a momentous question came to them for decision. They decided, and the outcome was the enlistment of the husband as a soldier in the Union Army for the term of the Civil War. Some of his brothers had already gone into the service and all had decided to enlist. Robert enlisted in the spring of 1863, in Company I of the 47th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, which became a part of the Army of the Cumberland and as such took part in the southern campaign of General Sherman, including Sherman's famous march through Georgia to the sea. Robert Blaine served until after the termination of hostilities in 1865 and having received honorable discharge he returned soon afterward to his native county and township and again took up the task of clearing his eighty acre farm. This eventually he accomplished with forty acres additional, so that he ultimately possessed a fine tract of tillable soil, upon which he and his family lived until 1894, when he had reached a state of material wealth to enable him to retire from agricultural work. He rented his farm to another and went with his wife into Delta, building a fine home in the village and there residing in comfortable circumstances until his death, January 19, 1918. The expressions of sympathy his widow received at that time clearly indicated the respect in which her husband was held in the village of Delta, and in their native township. Mr. Blaine lived a worthy, helpful and unselfish life. He took good part in the public responsibilities of the township, serving for twelve years as justice of the peace, two years as assessor and at one time was township trustee and a member of the School Board. Politically Mr. Blaine was a republican and at one time was a factor of some consequence in political movements in Amboy Twp. He belonged to the Delta Post of the Grand Army of the Republic and was an active church worker in his younger days. In fact, when he lived in Amboy Twp he always served as steward of his church.
Robert Blaine married on July 4, 1859, Laura M Robb, who had been born in Medina, Ohio, but had lived in Amboy Twp for about four years with her parents before she and Robert Blaine married. Her parents were Nathaniel and Calista (Parent) Robb, the former a native of New Hampshire and her mother of Ithaca, New York. Her parents had married in New York state, but had early come into Medina county, Ohio, of which county they are among the pioneers and in 1855 moved into Amboy Twp of Fulton county, where they lived for the remainder of their lives. Robert and Laura M (Robb) Blaine lived a praiseworthy married life to within eighteen months of fifty years. Mrs. Blaine still lives in Delta, where she has many sincere friends. She is in comparatively good health, is comfortably circumstanced, and has the solicitude of many true friends. She owns sixty acres of her late husband's farm in Amboy Township, which property is in the hands of a reliable tenant. Robert and Laura M (Robb) Blaine were the parents of two children: Viola, who is the widow of William Carter, who for the greater part of his life was a resident of Delta, where his widow still lives, near her mother; and Ella who married Frank Penny, of Metamora, Fulton county.

The deceased was united in marriage to Elmina Robb, July 4, 1861, she preceding him two years. To this union was born four children, Mrs. H.A. Smallman, Mrs. (F) E. Smallman, Mr. J.W. Blaine and Dora Blaine, who died while young in years. The deceased served his country during the struggle of 61 to 64. He was a member of the GAR Baxter Post, No. 238, Lyons, Ohio. She was united in marriage with William Driskell on December 22, 1861, and to this union four children were born, two boys and two girls; Clara, who preceded her father and mother to the spirit land; Willard M., of Royalton Twp.; Luella L, wife of Myron Dernier of Sylvania; and W.W. of Toledo. (Also) eight grandchildren and one grandchild, Maude Johnson, (who) died at an early age. These with three great grandchildren; two sisters, Sarah, of Missouri, and Emma, of Amboy Twp.; and two brothers, Marian of Toledo, and James of Kansas, (along) with many friends and neighbors survive to mourn their loss. In one of the books about the history of Fulton Co. at the Delta Library, George W. Smith owned a meat market in Metamora and was a buyer and shipper of live stock. He was born in Pike Twp. on October 28, 1867, and on October 27, 1892 he married Minnie Blain, daughter of Marion and Eleanor (Moore) Blain, and granddaughter of Charles and Rachel (Bartholomew) Blain, natives of Onondaga and Montgomery Counties in New York. It is undetermined if this is referencing one of the children listed here or if there is another daughter.

Please note that Marion's birth year may have been abt 1849 as he was listed in the 1850 census as 1 and in the 1860 census as 11. (Thanks John for pointing this out!) :-)

Charles Blaine was born 11/1/1847 in Amboy Twp., Fulton Co., OH. Died Nov. 15, 1920, aged 73 years, 3 weeks and one day. When he was but a boy 16 years and 7 months of age he enlisted in the service of his country in Co. G, 47 Reg. O.V.I. Infantry Corporal of Leut. Everett H Clandenena. He serviced his country faithfully to the close of the war. On the 11th day of August 1885, he was honorably discharged. After he returned home he entered his former occupation as a tiller of the soil. A few years after his return from the service he was united in marriage with Esther Ann Roop. To them 4 children were born, 2 boys and 2 girls, Iva Cementous Carter, Myrtle Musette Wilcox, Charles Earnest Blaine, and Van Harry Blaine. Five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. These all remain to mourn their loss of a kind father, loving husband, a considerate grandfather and a good neighbor.

Charles Blaine. The Blaine family history began at Toledo as early as 1830, with the coming of Charles Blaine, Sr., from Onondaga Co., NY. Charles Blaine, Jr., of Amboy, was born November 1, 1847-territorial days in Fulton Co., and he has always lived in the same community. His mother, Rachel (Bault) Blaine, was born in Sylvania. When they located in Amboy the whole face of the earth in as far as their environment went was in timber and under water.

Mr. Blaine entered a quarter section of land, which he cleared and improved, and he and his wife both died there. The children in this pioneer family are: Robert and Benjamin, deceased; Sarah, wife of George Havens, of Swan Creek; Elmina, wife of William Driscoll, of Royalton; James, of Wichita, Kansas; Charles, of this sketch; Marion, of East Toledo; Esther, deceased wife of William Stillwell; and Emma, wife of Thomas Stedman, of Amboy.

Let the mathematician estimate the age of a young man born November 1, 1847 who enlisted in the Union Army March 1, 1864. Charles Blaine enlisted in Company I, Forty-seventh Ohio Volunteer Infantry, and his regiment was assigned to duty at Chattanooga. He was in the Army of the Cumberland under Generals Sherman, Logan and Hagen, and he was in some of the hard fought engagements. He was at Missionary Ridge and Atlanta, and went with General Sherman "from Atlanta to the Sea while marching through Georgia."

Mr. Blaine was in different engagements in South Carolina and went with his regiment to Raleigh, North Carolina, being there when Johnston surrendered, and he also witnessed General Lee's surrender. He went to Petersburg, Richmond and on to Washington. He was in Washington at the time of the Grand Review, as the soldiers were disbanding and being sent to their homes all about the country. He went from Washington to Parkersburg and down the Ohio River to Louisville. After camping five days in Louisville he went to Little Rock, where he remained four weeks, and from there to Camp Denison, where he received his discharge August 11, 1865 and returned to Fulton County.

On February 3, 1867 Mr. Blaine married Estner Roop, a daughter of William and Lauretta (Gilson) Roop, of Amboy. The father was born in Toledo and the mother in Vermont. The paternal ancestry, John and Mary (Mills) Roop, came from Buffalo, NY and Sandusky OH. The maternal grandparents, Alfred and Jane (McAllister) Gilson came from Vermont. When Charles Blaine was married he settled on forty acres he had acquired and remained there ten years clearing and improving it. When he sold it he bought fifty acres of his present farm, when it was all in timber and he had to clear the space for the first house built on it. He now has thirty-five acres under cultivation, the remainder in wood land and pasture.
In the was of business enterprise Mr. Blaine owned and operated a cane mill when people lived on sorghum molasses, and as the orchards came into bearing he added the cider mill. He made sorghum molasses and cider fro the public until 1902, and he continued in the saw mill business until 1917, when he disposed of it. There was little demand for sorghum and with the destruction of the forest the orchards and more enemies and there was fewer apples for cider. However, the cane mill industry revived in war times in some communities. Sorghum molasses was often substituted for sugar.

Mr. Blaine has added to his landed possessions until he now has 213 acres in three different places and he personally manages the 120 acres in the farmstead where he lives. He combines livestock production with farming and keeps a dairy. The dairy farmer maintains soil fertility and thereby increases the land production. His children are: Ina, wife of Frank Carter, of Amboy; Charles Ernest, of Delta; Van Harry, of Constantine, MI; and Myrtle, wife of Emmet Wilcox of Amboy. For six years Mr. Blaine served as trustee of Amboy Township, and as path master fourteen years. Some of the family ancestry were among the earliest citizens of Fulton County. John Roop, William Blain, Alfred Gilson and Aaron Stedman were pioneers of the community. The Blaine's are members of Amboy Grange and Mr. Blaine is a member of Baxter Post, Grand Army of the Republic, of Lyons. He is vice commander and has held all of the chairs except treasurer of the Post.

A birthright pioneer of Fulton County one of the youngest surviving veterans of the great Civil War, a farmer and promoter of home industry, these and other services have made Mr. Blaine, one of the most interesting and useful citizens of the county, and he well deserves the respect and high esteem in which he is held by the members of his community.

Emma Minerva (aka Mina), daughter of Charles and Rachel Blaine, was born in Amboy Twp., July 16, 1845, and departed this life at her old home, aged 71 years, 3 months and 17 days. She was the youngest of a family of nine, five boys and four girls, seven of whom have preceded her in death, leaving one aged brother, Mr. James Blaine of Wichita, Kansas. She was married to Thomas Steadman on July 3, 1876 and two sons came to bless this union, Friend V of Sacramento, CA and Robert E at home. The fiftieth anniversary of her marriage was to be celebrated this coming year. Her husband, two sons, nieces, nephews, and friends will miss her helpful hand and sincere understanding sympathy. Funeral service was held from the Santee Church (is this right, or is it the Siney church?) Thursday by the Re. S.A.Beck. Interment made at Edgar cemetery.

General Notes: According to my Grandfather (Leland Blain, Benjamin's youngest son) Benjamin held several jobs during his lifetime. Farming is what he started with. He was also a Railway ticket taker, a driver of the streetcar in Adrian. Benjamin sold Maxwell cars and taught people to drive them. He was a stop sign holder for the streetcars and in his later years during the winters he was the Elks Club caretaker and manager in Adrian (the caretaker was also a person who help set up and officiate card games). He was also a timer for the horse races.

Wm. B Goldsmith, son of Harmon and Alnora Goldsmith, was born in Fairfield Township, Mich, July 24th, 1870 and died at his home in Fairfield on Monday, April 11th, 1898, at 7 o'clock a.m.
He was married Sept. 14, 1897 to Miss Anna Hatt, of Palmyra, Mich.
Willie will be greatly missed not only in the home circle, but in the entire community where he was a general favorite.
The school where he attended but a few years ago was closed, and the bearers were selected from his schoolmates.
The funeral was largely attended and was held at the Ridge church, April 13th. The services were both solemn and impressive and were delivered by the same pastor who officiated at the marriage so short a time ago, the Rev. Geo. Humphrey, of Palmyra.
The pallbearers were Archie Morse, Samuel Raymond JR., Fred Morse, Clifford Ayers, Eugene Stout and Frank Raymond.
Universal sympathy goes out to his parents, who have seemingly had more then their share of trouble, this being their last child, the support of their declining years, they having lost a son a little over a year ago; also to his widow, who so shortly started with him on life's voyage, with bright prospects of a long and happy life together.

A PIONEER
In the death of Mrs. H.A.Smallman of Amboy Twp. the last pioneer of that neighborhood passed on to her reward. She was born on a farm and spent the 82 years of her life in that community.
Mrs. Smallman was in her usual health until on Christmas Day when she was stricken and gradually grew worse, passing away on the following Sunday. The funeral services were held from the home January 3, conducted by Rev. A.T. Cox of Seward, and burial was made in Greenlawn cemetery at Delta.
Eva Louise Blaine, daughter of Benjamin and Elmira (Elmina) Blaine, was born in Amboy twp., Fulton Co., OH, Nov. 7, 1862. She departed this life Dec. 31, 1944, at the age of 82 years, 1 month, and 24 days. She was married to H.A. Smallman Feb 28, 1883 and to this union one daughter was born. This happy home was broken May 29, 1938 when her husband passed away shortly after celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary.

She leaves to mourn her passing one daughter, two grandsons, two great grandchildren and one brother J.W. Blaine. Her sister, Mrs. Rosa Smallman, preceded her in death Nov. 20, 1944.

Rosa May Blaine, daughter of Benjamin and Elmira Blaine, was born in Amboy Twp., Fulton Co., OH, May 10, 1871. She was united in marriage to F.E. Smallman, June 29, 1891 at Deerfield, MI. They began housekeeping on the present home farm which Mr. Smallman had purchased. It was here that they spent XX years XXXing life's pathway together, until November 20, 1944, when she departed this life at the age of 73 years.

To this union were born 8 children, Mrs. Ola Wiley, Mrs. Annah Babcock and Mrs. Dessie McWuillin of Delta, Mrs. Oma Bushong of Swanton, John Smallman and Mrs. Reva Caldwell of Sylvania, Lee Smallman of Metamora and Ian Smallman, who passed away at the age of 3 years.
Those surviving are the aged husband, seven children, 28 grandchildren, 8 great grand children, one sister Eva Smallman and one brother J.W. Blaine besides other relatives and friends.
The funeral services were conducted at the home on Central Ave., Friday afternoon at 2:00 PM. Rev. C.J. Ludwick was the officiating clergyman. Burial in the Delta cemetery.

Arthur John Blain, 82, 250 Division Street died Sunday night in Bixby Hospital. He had been in ill health since 1948. Mr Blain was born April 13, 1887, in Jasper. He was life resident of Lenawee County.
On Dec. 18, 1907, he was married to Mary Bryan of Dover Twp who preceded him in death in 1945. One sister, Mrs. Vivian McNichols, and one brother, Peter Blain also preceded him in death.

He is survived by Mrs. Allen (Ilah) Baker of Adrian, Mrs. Roy (Geraldine) Sowyer of Adrian, Mrs. Vivian Smith of Adrian, Mrs. Wayne (Lucile) Kosier of Wauseon, OH, one son, Wayne M and one brother Leland M Blain of Sand Creek, eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Mr. Blain was a member of the I.O.O.F. in Adrian. He was employed for many years as a truck driver for the Andrews Truck lines and later for the Simplex Paper Corp. He was employed as a fireman at the Girls Training School and later he sold monuments for the Reynolds Monument Company in Wauseon, OH.

Services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 in the Everiss Funeral Home. The Rev. Richard Budden of the Palmyra Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be in the Palmyra Cemetery.

Carlton E Hallnan, age 87, of Holland and formerly of Swanton, passed away June 19, 2001, at Spring Meadows Care Center. Carlton was a self-employed carpenter for many years, retiring in 1978. He belonged to the Delta Eagles and the Swanton Elks. Carlton was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Lena Bush Hallnan; brothers Jim and Bill, and sister, Georgia Bohnert. Carlton is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edna; daughters Myrna Purdy of Sylvania, Norma (Bill) Kidder, and Linda Judson, both of Toledo; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

She was born July 4, 1916, in Adrian to Arthur and Mary (Bryan) Blain. She was married to Roy Sawyer on Sept. 12,1942. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1992. She had been a lifelong resident of Lenawee County. Geraldine worked for the Blissfield Community Schools. She was a member of the Palmyra Mother's Singers, the Palmyra Grange, the Lenawee County Farm Bureau, she was a 4-H Leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, and volunteered as a Foster Grandparent at Michener and Madison Schools.

Geraldine is survived by a son, Lyle Edwin Sawyer and his wife, Martha, of Adrian; a daughter, Mrs. Charles (Mary) Gerth of Adrian; three sisters, Ardeth Blain of Adrian, Vivian Smith of Adrian and Lucille Kosier of Wauseon, Ohio; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother and a sister and a great-granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Walt Miller officiating. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Anderson Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Lenawee or to the American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the Anderson Funeral Home.

BLISSFIELD - Barbara Ann Kronberg, 33 of 220 Kingsburg Ct. died on Feb 23, 1986 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She was born Jan 11, 1953, in Adrian to Leland and Hidreth (Rinehart) Blain. She married Duane Kronberg on June 16, 1972 and he survives. Mrs. Kronberg was employed at Carolyn's Beauty Salon in Blissfield. An avid bowler, she bowled in several area leagues.

In addition to her husband survivors include two daughters, Andrea and Cheri, at home; two brothers, Dalton Blain of Adrian, and Carl Blain of Blissfield; a sister, Mrs. Norma Snyder of CA; and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leland Blain of Sand Creek.

The funeral will be on Thursday at 11 am at Tagsold Funeral Home, with the Rev. Richard Jordan officiating. Burial will be in Pleasantview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, 7-9 pm and Wednesday 9 am to 7 pm.
