J. B. SCHNETZLER, son of John N. and Magdalena (Riedy) Schnetzler, who were born in Switzerland in 1800 and 1802, where the former died in 1849, was born in Switzerland in 1836, and emigrated with his mother to America in 1858, and settled in Fulton County in 1859. He was married in Toledo in 1856 to Albertine, daughter of Joseph and Helen Henpel of Germany who was born in Wurtemberg in 1839. They have seven children: Louisa M., Emil U., Emma H., Mary T., Albert M., Edwin J., and Julius A. Mr. Schnetzler has been Mayor of Archbold since 1870. Business, druggist.
CASPER F. LEWIS was born in Seneca County, Ohio, on September 18, 1847. He was married in Delta in 1868 to Carrie A., daughter of Catharine and Burr Allen of Connecticut, born in Milan, Erie County, Ohio, October 16, 1845. They have one child, Hattie B., born October 4, 1869. The parents of Mr. Lewis are P. R. Lewis, of New York and Sophronia Blake of Ohio. They settled in Fulton County in 1848. The former was 1st Lieutenant Co. A, 184th Regiment O.V.I. in the war of the Rebellion. C. F. Lewis was a member of Co. H, 1st Regiment O.V.V.L.A. in the same war.

HENRY HIRSCH, son of Samuel and Jane Hirsch, of Prussia, where they still reside; was born in Prussia in 1854. He settled in Fulton County in 1873. Post-office Archbold. Business, salesman.
JACOB VERNIER, son of George and Catharine Vernier of France was born in France, January 11, 1838. His wife, Catharine, daughter of Jacob and Catharine Bourquin was born in the same country, June 20, 1842. They were married in German Township, Fulton County in 1865. Their family consists of three children: Emile, Emma and Almeda. Mr. Vernier settled in the county in 1846. Post-office, Archbold.
JACOB VERNIER keeps constantly on hand the largest stock of hardware in Northwestern Ohio and sells at better prices. He deals in all kinds of farming implements from a pitch fork to a threshing machine or a portable steam engine.

PETER SEIGLE, son of Jacob and Catharine Noffsinger Seigle, was born in Prussia in 1837. He was married in Morenci, Michigan, October 24, 1863 to Fannie_____, born in Switzerland in 1841. They have a family of three children: Ida, Alice and Emma. Mr. Seigle had one brother, John Seigle in the 128th Regiment O.V.I. in the war of the Rebellion. Post-office, Archbold. Business, wagon and carriage manufacturer.
GEORGE VERNIER, Jr. and his wife, Louisa (Dormoies) Vernier, were born in France, November 20, 1839 and September 8, 1843. They were married in Bryan, Ohio December 10, 1864. They have one son, Ervin E., born August 20, 1865, and one daughter, Alice C., born October 20, 1867. The parents of the subject of this sketch, George and Catharine Vernier, were born in France in 1811 and 1818. They were the parents of thirteen children: Jacob, George, Catharine, Frederick, Charles, Emily, P.J., Lissie, Louisa, Joullie, Henry, Emil and Julia. They settled in Fulton County in 1846 and now reside in Archbold. James and Margaret Dormoies, parents of Mrs. Vernier, were also natives of France. Post-office, Archbold. Business, dry goods and grocery merchant.
HOMER B. FRINK, son of Augustus P., and Rebecca (Teal) Frink, the former born in Oneida County, New York, in 1828, the latter in 1832 both of whom reside in Noble County, Indiana; was born in Noble County, Indiana in 1852. He was married in Wauseon September 17, 1874 to Annie Tanner, daughter of Martin and Magdalena (Miller) Tanner, born in Switzerland in 1820 and 1824. Mrs.. Frink was born in Ohio in 1853. Her parents settled in the county in 1856. Augustus Frink was a member of Company A, 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery in the war of the Rebellion. He was taken prisoner at Baton Rouge and after being retained six weeks was exchanged, joined the Union army and was discharged at the close of the war. Post-office, Archbold. JOHN THEOBALD, son of Michael and Phillipina Theobald of Germany was born in Seneca County, Ohio, June 12, 1837. He was married in German Township in 1869 to Christina Gype, daughter of John and Christina Gype who was born in Bavaria, September 27, 1843. They have three children: Albert E., Emma C., and John B. Mr. Theobald?s brothers and sisters are: Lewis, Catharine, Valentine, Caroline, Jacob (who died in the army at Vicksburg in 1862), Henry (who also died in the army), and Michael. Mrs. Theobald?s brothers and sisters are: Peter, Jacob, John, Christian, Adam, and Elizabeth. Mr. Theobald had four brothers in the Union army in the war of the Rebellion: Lewis, Valentine, Jacob and Henry, the first two belonged to the 37th Regiment O.V.I., the others to the 44th Regiment Illinois V. I. Valentine lost his right arm while serving as a veteran. Mr. Theobald settled in Fulton County in 1847. Post-office, Archbold. Business, dealer in hardware.
JOHN SCHWARTZ was born in Switzerland in 1828, settled in Fulton County in 1858 and was married at Wauseon in 1873 to Mary Heffler, born in Baden in 1846. Ulrich Schwartz, father of the above, was born in Switzerland in 1793 and died in 1845. Elizabeth Schwartz, his mother, was born in the same country in 1784 and died in 1856. Lawrence and Elizabeth Heffler, parents of Mrs. Schwartz, were born in 1811, the latter is deceased; the former still resides in that country. Mr. Schwartz was in the Swiss army in the Rebellion of Baden.

JOHN WALKER ROSEBOROUGH was the second son of a family of six children, five boys and one girl, sons and daughter of John and Jane (Ewing) Roseborough. The former was born in Alleghany County, Pennsylvania, June 4, 1798. He was of Irish extraction, and died in February 4, 1838. The latter was born in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, June 28, 1893. The Ewings were of Scotch descent, and relatives of Hon. Thomas Ewing (deceased). The subject of our sketch was born in Wayne County, Ohio, July 3, 1829. His father died when he was seven years of age: and he was apprenticed to learn the blacksmith?s trade at the age of seventeen. He served two years and decided to educate himself, which he did, teaching and attending school alternately until he had finished the common, and pursued many of the higher branches. He commenced the study of law in 1852 with Alexander Bierce of Canton, Ohio and in 1852 was admitted to the bar of the same place. He was married June 17, 1852 in Holmes County to Rebecca C., daughter of Hugh and Eliza (Richeson) McCulloch, of Pennsylvania, the former born in 1799 and died in 1875, the latter born in 1895 is still living in Holmes County. Mrs. Roseborough was born in Holmes County, September 6, 1834. Their children are: Demosthenes H. (deceased), Eliza J., Antoinette, Alice A., Mary E., Cicero E., John G. W., William C.S., Armina E., Arminda C., Wilmie R., and Cora Daisy. Mr. Roseborough settled in Fulton County in 1855. He was by birth and education a Democrat, but in 1854 he united with the Republican party, and in 1864 was elected prosecuting attorney of Fulton County which office he has filled three terms. His administration was marked by the rigid enforcement of the liquor laws as well as all the common laws of the state. In 1862 Mr. Roseborough was drafted, and served some time in Cleveland where he was elected captain. He was discharged on account of a disabled hand, caused by a serious burn in infancy. Mr. Roseborough was enrolling officer during the late war. He had one brother, Joseph Ewing Roseborough, 1st Lieutenant in the 120th Regiment O.V.I., afterwards elected lieutenant colonel. The two brothers and sister are the only surviving members of the family.

JAMES C. CARPENTER and his wife, Cordelia (Thompson) Carpenter were born, the former in Orleans County, New York, May 19, 1824, the latter in Alleghany County, New York, August 28, 1829. They were married in Michigan, February 10, 1848. Their family consists of six children, Hannah, Malon B., Miriam R., Minnie M., Harmon J. and William H. Samuel and Mary Carpenter, parents of the above were born in Orange County, New York in 1775 and 1787. Olivar and Rebecca Thompson, parents of Mrs. Carpenter, were born, the former in Stonington, Connecticut in 1800, the latter in New York in 1809. Mr. Carpenter has filled the office of township trustee. He settled in Fulton County in 1851. Post-office, Lyons. Business, farmer.
ENOS C. DANIELS and Mary A. Carrell were married in Mentor Lake County, Ohio, May 4, 1837. They were born, the former in Madison County, New York, December 22, 1814, the latter in Geauga County, Ohio August 23, 1816. They settled in Fulton County in March, 1840 and Mr. Daniels built the first frame hotel, first church, brick building, dwelling house and block in Lyons and the first gristmill in Royalton Township. Sheffield and Electa (Haseleton) Daniels, parents of Enos C. were born, the former in New Hampshire in 1787, the latter in New York in 1797, and now she resides in Wisconsin. S. Daniels died in Missouri in 1840. The parents of Mrs. Daniels were Thomas and Hannah (Kerr) Carrell. The former was born in New Jersey in 1797 and died in Fulton County, Ohio in 1859. The latter was born in Pennsylvania in 17887 and died in Lake County, Ohio in 1863. The children of Enos and Mary Daniels are: Albert C., born July 21, 1839, married Lydia M. Sanford, January 1, 1861; Ellen T., born June 2, 1841, married John B. Wood, November 7, 1860; Mary E., born December 9, 1851, married Harman Lauderdale, January 22, 1870. Albert C. enlisted in Company I, 67th Regiment O.V.I. December 14, 1861 and served three years. He entered as private and was promoted to first sergeant, was in a number of hard-fought battles and honorably discharged. Post-office, Lyons. Business, farmer, section 7.
THOMAS MEASURES and his wife, Sophia (Langley) Measures, were born in England, the former in Lincoln County, January 4, 1840, the latter in Northampton County in 1844. They were married in Wadenhoe, England, November 3, 1863. They had four children born in England and one in Fulton County, Ohio as follows: Henry, born January 29, 1865, William, born August 13, 1866, Mary A., born May 6, 1867, George born May 29, 1869, Thomas M., born November 29, 1871. Thomas and Mary (Tansley) Measures, parents of the subject of this sketch were born in Lincoln County, England, where the former died June 3, 1874, and where the latter still resides. William and Ann Langley were also natives of England. Mr. Measures settled in Fulton County in 1871. Business, blacksmith and carriage maker.
ROBERT W. LADD and his wife, Kate E. Selover, were born, the former in Brooklyn County, Michigan, July 14, 1843, the latter in Cayuga County, New York. They were married in Cayuga County, New York, July 14, 1872. They have one son, Fred S., born February 18, 1875. Mr. Ladd?s parents were Henry W. Ladd, born in New York and deceased in Jackson County, Michigan, and Salinda (Seely) Ladd of Michigan. R. W. Ladd had two brothers in the Union army in the war of the rebellion. Henry J. Ladd was commissioned as second lieutenant 8th Pennsylvania Cavalry, and discharged on account of disability. Fred S. Ladd was second lieutenant in the 9th Michigan Cavalry, and was afterwards promoted to captain and while acting as colonel at Cyprus Swamp, near Savannah was shot dead in front of his company, and died a true and noble soldier. His last words were, ?Come on boys.? R. W. Ladd settled in Fulton County in 1869. Post-office, Lyons. Business, dealer in hardware and agricultural implements.
CHARLES HINKLE, son of Ira and Sarah A. (Doud) Hinkle of New York was born in Fulton County, Ohio May 21, 1844. He was married in the same county, September, 1866 to Lydia Macumber, born in Indiana, May 5, 1848. Their family consists of: Sarah A., born in Fulton County January 23, 1870, died March 4, 1871; Gertrude born March 22, 1872, and Hattie M., born February 8, 1874. Lyman and Ann (Silsby) Macumber, both of whom died in Indiana, were parents of Mrs. Hinkle. Mr. C. G. Hinkle enlisted in Company D 130th Regiment O.V.I. May 1, 1864, served six months and was honorably discharged. Post-office, Lyons.
ANSEL H. HENDERSON was born in Niagara County, New York, November 22, 1813. He was married July 6, 1836 to Ruth A. Richardson, who was born June 3, 1816 and died September 24, 1850. They had four children: Julia M., born January 13, 1839; Jasper, born March 4, 1843; Josephine, born June 29, 1846 and Annette R., born September 6, 1850. He was married a second time in Fulton County, January 30, 1851 to Elizabeth A. Hawley born in Chautauqua County, New York, August 25, 1824. She has one son, Edwin H., born March 18, 1865. Mr. Henderson was the eldest of a family of three sons and two daughters, children of Asabel and Philinda (Crary) Henderson. The former was born in Ontario County, New York, and died in Niagara County, New York in 1834. The latter was born in Vermont, and died in Kent County, Michigan. Manley and Amanda (Berry) Hawley, parents of Mrs. Henderson were born in Ontario County, New York, June 22, 1796 and Delaware County, New York, April 6, 1800. They were the parents of four sons and four daughters, of whom Mrs. Henderson was the eldest. Mr. Henderson has held the offices of assessor, township trustee, and other offices of trust. He settled in Fulton County in 1836. Post-office, Lyons, Business, farmer, section 11.
DAVIS BROWN and his wife, Harriet A. (Johnson) Brown were born in Fulton County, January 4, 1842 and October 2, 1848. They were married December 30, 1870 at Morenci, Michigan. They have two sons, George S., born October 17, 1871 and Marvin born June 29, 1874. George B. and Eliza (Coil) Brown, parents of Davis Brown, were born the former in Connecticut, the latter in Hamilton, County, Ohio, April 18, 1823 and died March 17, 1853. Sullivan and Fidela Johnson, parents of Mrs. Brown were born, the former in Vermont, the latter in New York and both reside in Fulton County, Ohio. Post-office, Lyons. JANE B. (Helms) SMITH, widow of Charles D. Smith, born in Orange County, New York, July 24, 1811, died in Fulton County, Ohio, October 21, 1858, was also born in Orange County, New York, January 26, 1813. They were married in the same county, October 17, 1834. The parents of this couple, James and Phebe Smith, and James and Margaret Helms were all from Orange County, New York. The latter died in Fulton County, November 18, 1873. Jane B. and Charles D. Smith had a family of eight children: Ellen H., born November 12, 1835; Martin V., born March 18, 1837; Mariah L., born March 29, 1839; Edwin R., born November 28, 1841, deceased August 3, 1845; Laton H., born January 6, 1845; Margaret H., born August 15, 1847; Charles born December 14, 1850; Janette, born September 7, 1854, died August 27, 1856. Martin enlisted in Company I, 67th Regiment O.V.I. in 1861, served three years and was once wounded in battle. Laton enlisted in the 100-day service and served five months. Mr. Smith was one of the pioneers of Fulton County, having settled there in 1835. He was county treasurer seven years and filled other offices of trust. He was a highly respected and honored citizen, and his death was mourned by many friends. Post-office, Lyons. Business, farming, section 7.
Dr. WILLIAM l. GARRAT and his wife, Adelia M. (Parker) Garratt were born, the former in Wayne County, New York, August 22, 1840, the latter in Williams County, Ohio, July 16, 1851. They were married in Adrian, Michigan, October 6, 1868. They have two children, Van C. Garratt, born October 15, 1871 and Edna L., born December 10, 1874. Mott and Nancy Garratt, parents of William L. were born, the former in Dutchess County, New York, September 7, 1787, the latter in Amherst, Massachusetts in 1798. The parents of Mrs. Garratt were Jared C., and Maria (White) Parker of New York. Mr. W. L. Garratt enlisted in Company M, 9th New York Heavy Artillery. He was transferred to the medical department, and attached to the regular army where he served until the close of the war. He had one brother in the 19th Regiment Illinois V.I. who served during the entire war. The father of Dr. William L. Garratt was pressed into the British service in the war of 1812 and compelled to serve throughout the war, though remaining loyal to the United States. Dr. Garratt settled in Fulton County in 1863. Post-office, Lyons. Business, physician and surgeon.
