JOHN KINNEY, son of John and Phoeba Kinney of New York was born in New York, November 22, 1819. He was married January 12, 1845 to his first wife, Harriet Gunn, born October 27, 1830. They had a family of five children: Phoeba J., born July 7, 1846; John O., born April 15, 1850; Lunetta E., born September 17, 1852; Horace G., born May 10, 1860; Eugene E., born May 26, 1862. Mr. Kinney was married a second time July 22, 1865 to Melissa Eggleston, daughter of Benedict and Margaret (Lewis) Eggleston, the former of Vermont, the latter of Pennsylvania. Mrs. Kinney was born June 13, 1843. The children of this union are: Elijah H., born March 13, 1867 and Fred W., born July 14, 1873. This was Mrs. Kinney?s second marriage; by her first husband she had one son and one daughter: Lillie J., born July 7, 1859 and Elmer E., born February 7, 1862. The father of these children was a member of Company G., 154th Regiment N.Y.V.I. in the war of 1861-5. He was killed in battle. Mr. Kinney settled in Fulton County in 1841. Post-office, Delta. JOHN S. LAVER, son of B. and M. A. Laver of Germany was born in Germany April 12, 1833. He was married in Fulton County, Ohio April 12, 1864 to Paulina Alwood born in Ohio January 3, 1840. The children of this marriage are: Mary A. P., born December 29, 1858; G. S., born January 12, 1865; Solomon E., born December 21, 1867; Phillip, born August 16, 1869; and John C., born December 8, 1872. P.H. and Mary Alwood, parents of Mrs. Laver were born, the former in Maryland, the latter in Pennsylvania. They settled in Fulton County in 1835. Mr. Laver entered the Union army as commissary sergeant in the 86th Regiment O.V.I. He also held the positions of first and second lieutenant and captain of Company B, 182nd Regiment. HENRY S. ISBELL, son of Israel and Huldah (Wooden) Isbell of Connecticut was born in Summit County, Ohio March 20, 1830. He was married in Atica, Seneca County, Ohio November 21, 1855 to Jane B. Lemmon born in Seneca County, Ohio December 27, 1835. Their children are: May H., born August 12, 1856; Nellie L., born November 14, 1857, died February 1, 1864; Frank I., born November 14, 1859; Sarah C., born September 25, 1861; Ruby C., born February 17, 1875. Charles and Hannah (Cumpton) Lemmon, parents of Mrs. Isbell were born, the former in Maryland in 1780 and the latter in New Jersey in 1790. They settled in Fulton County in 1873. Mr. Isbell settled in in Fulton County in 1866. Post-office, Delta, section 34. Business, farmer.
DRESDEN W. H. HOWARD, son of Edward and Nancy Howard was born in New York November 4, 1818. Mrs. Mary (Blackwood) Howard, daughter of William and Hannah Copeland was also born in New York May 4, 1824. They have one son and one daughter: Osceola E. and Mary A. Mr. Howard settled in Fulton County in 1822. Post-office, Winameg. Business, farmer and wool grower, section 9.
WILLIAM E. MULLEN, son of William and Abigail L. Mullen was born in New Jersey February 22, 1837. His wife, Mrs. Lora E. Mullen was born in Alexandria, Licking County, Ohio, June 15, 1849. She was a daughter of Josiah and Maria Graves. Mr. Mullen settled in Fulton County in 1849. Post-office, Winameg. Business, farmer, section 9.
GILES B. LASSCELL, son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Dimick) Lasscell was born in Montgomery County, New York. His wife, Maria L. (Ledyard) Lasscell was born in Oswego County, New York. They have children as follows: Milton, Mary, George, Elizabeth, Charles, Frank (deceased), Cora, Kate and Frank. Mr. Lasscell settled in Fulton County in 1854, section 34. Post-office, Winameg. Business, farmer.
ELIAS WYMAN BILLINGS, son of Lyman and Almira J. Billings was born in South Deefield, Franklin County, Massachusetts January 11, 1854. He settled in Fulton County in 1860. Post-office, Delta. Business, farmer, section 1.
RUTH (WEST) GILLETT is the widow of Mr. Harkless Gillett born October 11, 1814 and who died August 17, 1875. She was a daughter of Thomas and Susannah West, the former born in Cuyahoga County in 1796, died in 1860; the latter born in 1797, died in 1871. She was born in Columbiana County, Ohio in 1824 and married in 1846. Ruth and Harkless Gillett had six children living at the time of his death: Thomas, Virden, Nancy Jane, Charles O., Rachel and Henry, and four deceased. Mrs. Gillett removed from Cuyahoga County, Ohio to Fulton in 1873. She is a woman of great strength of character and indomitable perseverance. In her early married life they were very poor, her husband being addicted to that fatal habit which ruins many worthy men ?intemperance.? A wealthy father offered her a home if she would leave her husband; but, true to her early love, she chose to share his fortunes, resolving that she would not always be homeless; and resolutely setting herself to work, she labored at anything she could find to do, and by good management, the help of good children, and the blessing of Providence is now the owner of 200 acres of land in Fulton County, one farm of 22 acres near Cleveland and all well stocked. JOHN SOLOMON BARKER, son of Benjamin and Maria Barker was born in St. Lawrence County, New York December 4, 1828. His wife, Ardelia M. Barker was born in New York. They had a family of seven children: Francis M., Charles F., Stella M., William E., Mary M., Oswold and John Solomon. Mrs. Barker?s parents were Solomon and Minerva Zrans. Mr. Barker settled in Fulton County in 1867. Post-office, Winameg. Business, farmer and carpenter, section 32.

CHARLES L. ALLEN, son of Isaac and Mary Allen of Enfield, Connecticut was born in Monroe County, New York in 1839. He was married in Gorham Township, Fulton County in 1864 to Susan C. Gamber who was born in Seneca County, New York in 1830. She was a daughter of Henry and Polly Gamber of Pennsylvania. Mr. And Mrs. Allen have two children: Carrie B. and Elsie M. Mr. Allen was a member of the 38th Regiment O.V.I., serving three years in the war of the rebellion. He was adjutant and first lieutenant; resigned in 1863. Mr. Allen has filled the office of justice of the peace six years and postmaster ten years. He settled in Fulton County in 1859. Post-office, Fayette. Business, merchant. Residence, Fayette, lots 7 and 8.
GEORGE W. PARKER was born in Michigan July 20, 1848 and married in Fulton County in 1868 to Austina E. Rice, daughter of A. J. and Clarissa Rice of New York who was born in Fulton County June 20, 1848. Jared and Almira Parker, parents of the subject of this sketch were born, the former in Connecticut, the latter in Fulton County, Ohio. They had one son and four daughters: George, Mary, Ella, Clara, and Addie. Mr. Parker settled in Fulton County in 1848. Post-office, Fayette. Business, merchant.
ARTHUR ALLEN, son of Isaac and Mary Allen was born in Clarkson, New York February 8, 1842 and married at Fayette, Fulton County, Ohio in 1869 to Frances, daughter of George and Amelia Dubois; the former of New York, the latter of Connecticut. She was born in Orange, Ohio, March 25, 1844. They have two children: George J., born July 2, 1872 and Harry L., born March 21, 1875. Mr. Allen settled in Fulton County in 1867. He has filled the office of township clerk one term and member of board of education; also, of village council. Post-office, Fayette. Business, general milling.
WILLIAM WILKINSON settled in Fulton County in 1872. He was born in Scotland, June 14, 1828 and married in Hudson, Michigan November 14, 1868 to Kittie McKenna who was born in Medina, Michigan April 28, 1844. They have one son, Charles, born in Niagara City, New York. William and Anna Wilkinson, parents of the subject of this sketch were born in Edinburgh, Scotland and now reside in Michigan. Patrick and Mary McKenna, parents of Mrs. Wilkinson were both born in Ireland. Mr. Wilkinson held the office of county clerk of Lancaster County, New York. Post-office, Fayette. Business, merchant tailor.
JOHN M. SERGENT and his wife, Annie (Paul) Sergent were born in Fulton County, Ohio October 2, 1841 and June 2, 1847. They were married in Michigan in 1863 where their only son, Arthur G., was born March 20, 1868. Ephraim and Hulda Sergent, parents of the above were born in Vermont and settled in Fulton County in 1839. Abel and Catharine Paul, parents of Mrs. Sergent, settled in Fulton County in 1840. Post-office, Fayette. Business, hotel keeper.
R. S. HUMPHREY was one of the pioneers of Fulton County where he settled in 1843. He was one of the first to clear up the land where Fayette now stands and built the first frame house and the first school house in Gorham Township. In 1844 he cut the road out which is now the principal street of Fayette. In 1847 he built a steam sawmill, the first in the township; in 1850 built a store and blacksmith shop; and in 1857 a steam grist mill. He has been a member of the board of education for 21 years and township trustee three terms. Mr. Humphrey, son of Josiah and Esther Humphrey of Connecticut was born in New York July 29, 1821. He was married in Onondaga County, New York January 29, 1845 to Cornelia Emerick who was born in New York April 5, 1828. Her parents, Abraham and Hannah Emerick were born, the former in New York, the latter in Connecticut. R.S. and Cornelia Humphrey have thirteen children: Hannah, Josiah (deceased), Minnie, Ann E., Elva I., Alpha and Alta (deceased), Elmer E., Charles L., Elery, Vernia, Millie and Ola E. Post-office, Fayette. Business, farmer and merchant, lots 5 and 6, section 18 and 20.
NATHAN SHAW, son of John and Polly Shaw, both of whom were born and died in Massachusetts was also born in Massachusetts April 18, 1820. Annie B. Shaw, wife of the above, and daughter of Ansel and Deborah Ford, also natives of Massachusetts was born in Berkshire County, Massachusetts November 27, 1824. This couple was married in Michigan in 1844 and have a family of five children: Charles A., John F., Arthur L., Ernest A., and Clarence A. (deceased). Mr. Shaw has been a member of the board of education 21 years. He has also filled the offices of township trustee and treasurer. Post-office, Fayette. Business, stock raiser and farmer, section 20.
JOSEPH O. ALLEN, son of Isaac and Mary Allen of Connecticut was born in New York in 1830, settled in Fulton County in 1851 and married in Michigan to Sarah A. McLane, daughter of Hugh and Angeline McLane. Their family consists of five children: Rose (deceased), Lilly, Donald A., Viola M. and Earl. Mr. Allen has been township treasurer ten years, also member of board of education and village council. Post-office, Fayette. Business, physician, lot 8.
B. F. RUSSELL, son of Simon and Polly Russell of Maine was born in New York March 9, 1818. He settled in Fulton County in 1841 where he was married in Gorham Township March 2, 1847 to Delia A., daughter of Ansel and Deborah Ford of Massachusetts where Delia was born April 29, 1827. Their family consists of eight children: Amon L., Leander J. (deceased, Alice A., Almina A., Leander, Flora May, Emily V., and Mary O. Mr. Russell cleared the farm on which he lives and has filled the office of constable for several terms and township trustee one term. Post-office, Fayette. Business, stock raiser and farmer, section 28.
ALMON J. RICE, son of Elijah and Jerusha Rice of Connecticut was born in Oneida County, New York, May 29, 1812. He was married in Oswego County, New York February 27, 1839 to Clarissa Bailey who was born in Connecticut, December 31, 1818. Her parents, Asa and Lucinda Bailey were natives of Connecticut and settled in Fulton County, Ohio in 1850. Almon and Clarissa Rice have a family of five children: Asa S., Harvey M., Austiana E., Lewis E. and A. Frank. Asa Rice belonged to an Illinois Cavalry Regiment in the late war and died at Camp Kane, Illinois. Harvey belonged to the 38th O.V.I. and marched through Georgia with General Sherman. He had a sole shot off his shoe. Mr. Rice settled in Fulton County in 1844. Post-office, Fayette. Business, stock raiser and farmer, section 17.
JOHN D. BRINK and his wife Harriet E. (Kellogg) Brink were born in New York, the former in Ulster County September 19, 1807; the latter in Onondaga County August 24, 1811. They were married in Richland County, Ohio, May 8, 1828. Their family consists of six children: Almira (Mrs. Parker), Hobert, William W. (deceased), Ensign, Rachel (deceased), and James. William was a member of the 68th Regiment O.V.I. in the war of 1861-5, and after serving eleven months, died at Boliver, Tennessee of heart disease. Jacob and Elizabeth Brink, parents of the subject of this sketch were born in New York and died in Richland County, Ohio. Giles and Rachel Kellogg, parents of Mrs. Brink were born, the former in Connecticut, the latter in New York and settled in Fulton County, Ohio in 1846. Mr. Brink settled in the same in 1844. Post-office, Fayette. Business, farmer, section 21.
JOSEPH COTTRELL removed with his parents, Gorham and Althea Cottrell, from Massachusetts to Fulton County, Ohio in 1835. He was born at Worthing, Hampshire County, Massachusetts, April 4, 1815 and married in Gorham Township January 30, 1839 to Maria Lloyd who was born in Bennington County, Vermont, February 13, 1814. Their children are: George T., Georgiana, Josephine, Henrietta, Edgar, and Freman. George was a member of the 38th Regiment O.V.I. in the war of the rebellion. He was once wounded but served three years and was honorably discharged. Martin and Mercy Lloyd, parents of Mrs. Cottrell were born, the former in Massachusetts, the latter in Vermont and settled in Fulton County in 1835. Mr. Cottrell has filled the office of township treasurer and was post-master eleven years. Post-office, Fayette. Business, stock raiser and farmer, sections 22 and 21.
PETER F. CHAMBARD is of a family of three children: George, Peter and Catharine, sons and daughter of Frederick and Mary (Courvoisier) Chambard, who emigrated from France and settled in Wayne County, Ohio in 1836 where the former died May 1, 1874 at the age of 77 years. The subject of this sketch was born in France, October 12, 1822 and married in Fulton County, Ohio April 2, 1857 to Irene Baker who was born in Steuben County, New York December 29, 1816. Their children are: Mary, born February 1, 1853; Louis, born January 27, 1855; Sophia, born June 18, 1859. Joseph and Mary Baker, parents of Mrs. Chambard were born, the former in Massachusetts, the latter in New York and settled in Seneca County, Ohio. Their children are: Catharine, Seneca, Elizabeth, William, Sophia, Ruth, Samuel, Cornelia, Jefferson, Eunice, Richard, and Mary. Mr. Chambard settled in Fulton County in 1851. Post-office, Fayette. Business, stock raiser and farmer, section 18.
THOMAS C. LESTER, son of James and Esther Lester of New York was born in Cayuga County, New York February 22, 1819. He was married in Seneca County, Ohio February 10, 1848 to Mary A., daughter of Isaac and Nancy Lepard, natives of Virginia who was born in Fairfield County, Ohio July 14, 1821. The children of this couple are: Isaac, Nelson, Frank, Lee, Olive and Al. Mr. Lester settled in Fulton County in 1848. Post-office, Fayette. Business, farmer, section 7.
JAMES BAKER was born in Massachusetts, December 24, 1803. He married Angeline B. Aldrich born in Ontario County, New York June 5, 1808. They were married in Ontario County, New York February 23, 1832. They had a family of nine children: Hortense, Leander, Mercy A., David A., Marian, Thomas T., Emma A., George H. and James A. The parents of this couple, Simeon and Hannah Baker and David and F. Aldrich were born in Massachusetts and settled in Fulton County, the former in 1838 and the latter in 1840. Almon Baker belonged to the 2nd Michigan V.I. Regiment in the war of 1861-5. He was taken sick at Vicksburg and died at Cincinnati, Ohio. Mr. Baker settled in Fulton County in 1835. Post-office, Ritter. Business, stock raiser and farmer, section 15.
ISRAEL MATTERN and his wife, Sarah (Albert) Mattern, were born in Pennsylvania, the former in Columbia County April 5, 1818, the latter in Northampton County, April 11, 1815. They were married in Seneca County, New York April 13, 1844. Their children are: Jacob L., John A. and Angeline S. The parents of this couple, Jacob and Mary Mattern and John and Susannah Albert were natives of Pennsylvania. The first named settled in Fulton County in 1848. Mr. Mattern came into Fulton County in 1846. He has been justice of the peace 25 years in Gorham Township. He has also filled the offices of township trustee and school director. Post-office, Fayette. Business, farmer and justice of the peace, section 19, lots 29 and 32.
TRUMAN L. SCOFIELD and his wife, Harriet (Vanranken) Scofield were born in New York, the former in Onondaga County July 5, 1820, the latter at Saratoga, February 25, 1820. They were married in Onondaga County, New York July 4, 1842 and settled in Fulton County in 1844. They have a family of three children: Orcelia, Edwin, and Ellen. The parents of this couple, A. B. and Polly Scofield and Adam and Margaret Vanranken were all natives of New York. Business, stock raiser and farmer. Post-office, Fayette, section 7.
GEORGE P. GRAVES, son of Perry and Sarah Graves, the former born in Massachusetts, the latter at Nantucket, Martha?s Vineyard, was born in Massachusetts, June 23, 1841. He was married in Gorham Township, Fulton County in February 1865 to Susan C., daughter of W. H. and Priscilla Conrad, both natives of New York where Susan was born. Mr. And Mrs. Graves have a son and a daughter, Harry and Florence. Mr. Graves settled in Fulton County in 1852. He had two brothers and two sisters: Francis, Jared, Clarissa and Eunice. Business, stock raiser and farmer. Post-office, Fayette, section 17.
ABRAHAM SCHNEIDER and his wife, Elizabeth (Barkman) Schneider were born in Pennsylvania, the former in York County June 21, 1816, the latter in Berks County, July 12, 1817. They were married in Morrow County, Ohio August 27, 1840. They have a family of eight children: Levi, Jacob B., Sarah A., Catharine, Canos, Christiana, Azerbeth and Barbara. John and Magdelena Schneider, parents of the above were natives of York County, Pennsylvania and died in Morrow County, Ohio. The parents of Mrs. Schneider, John and Eve Barkman were born, the former in Germany, the latter in Pennsylvania and also died in Morrow County, Ohio. Jacob B. Schneider was a member of the 81st Regiment O.V.I. and served three years in the war of the rebellion. He marched with General Sherman to the sea. He was honorably discharged. Levi belonged to the 136th Regiment O.V.I. six months in the same war. Mr. Schneider settled in Fulton County in 1866. Business, stock raiser and farmer. Post-office, Fayette, section 17.
WILLIAM P. GARRISONis one of a family of two children, William and Joh, sons of William and Cyntha Garrison, the former born in New York, the latter in Vermont. He was born in Richland County, Ohio March 12, 1847. His wife, Rebecca E. Williams was born in the same county September 24, 1848. They were married in Ashland County, Ohio November 4, 1866. Their children are: Carrie, Edwin and Grace. Josiah and Mary Williams, parents of Mrs. Garrison were born, the former in Pennsylvania, the latter in Ohio. They had six children: Jane, Martin, John, William, Joseph and Charles. Mr. Garrison settled in Fulton County in 1868. Post-office, Fayette. Business, farmer and stock raiser, section 36.
JABEZ B. SNOW and his wife, Caroline (Rice) Snow, were born, the former in Onondaga County, New York, July 3, 1812, the latter in Madison County, New York, July 11, 1816. They were married in Madison County, New York, July 4, 1841. Their children are: Sardis, Fordyce B., John J. and Ada C. Sardis was a member of Company K, 38th Regiment O.V.I. and served his country four years in the war of the rebellion. He was in Sherman?s command, took part in the battles of Atlanta and Mission Ridge and was honorably discharged. Jabez and Huldah Snow, parents of the subject of this sketch, were born in Herkimer County, New York where the father died. The mother died in Michigan. Isaac and Ann Rice, parents of Mrs. Snow, were natives of Massachusetts. Mr. Snow settled in Fulton County in 1853. Post-office, Fayette. Business stock raiser and farmer, section 17.
