Edward MODEN
(known as Ed, though according to my late mother Ruth Ann Ruffer, his granddaughter,
his name was actually John Edward MODEN) was born 14 October 1859
near Grafton, Medina Co, OH. He was the son of James MODEN and Maria
HOPLEY both of who had emigrated from Hilgay, Norfolk, England (about
75 miles NNE of London) in 1854. Ed married Clara Etta EDGAR 19
July 1879 in Fulton Co, OH. Clara was the daughter of George EDGAR,
born 27 December 1838 in County Armagh, Ireland and Mary Ann PONTIOUS,
born 14 February 1845 in Pickaway County, OH, and the granddaughter of
Samuel
EDGAR/Mary PARKS who immigrated to the United States from Newry, County
Armagh, Ireland (approximately 35 miles SSW of Belfast in what is now Northern
Ireland) in 1857, and Daniel PONTIOUS/Elizabeth GINTZEL. Edward,
a farmer and property owner, died of prostate cancer on 24 March 1931 in
Wauseon, Fulton Co, OH, and was buried in the Wauseon Union Cemetery. Clara
Etta EDGAR was born 27 March 1864 in Henry Co, OH and died of cardiovascular
renal failure on 17 April 1949 in Wauseon, Fulton Co, OH. She was also
and was buried in the Wauseon Union Cemetery.
Ed and Clara had
four children: William Carl (called Carl), Ralph, Floyd
and Della MODEN.
Ralph Densil MODEN
was born 4 April 1888 in Clinton Twp, Fulton County, OH to Edward MODEN
and
Clara Etta EDGAR. He married (1) Mary B. FREE on 17 December
1908 in Wauseon, Fulton County, OH. They divorced __(date)__ in __(place)__.
He married (2) Mary Comfort SIMPSON 28 June 1916 in Bellefontaine,
Logan Co, OH. Mary, a schoolteacher, died of a cerebral hemorrhage on 7
September 1942 in Wauseon, Fulton Co, OH. She collapsed while warming a
bottle at her kitchen stove for her eleven month old grandson,
Jack
Arden RUFFER. She is buried in Wauseon Union Cemetery. Ralph then married
(3) Martha Hannah GRIFFITH on 5 May 1945 in Angola, Steuben County,
IN. Martha was born near Gomer in Allen County, OH on 17 March 1914. Ralph
Moden died of chronic myocarditis on 3 November 1961 in Morenci, Lenawee
County, MI.Martha GRIFFITH then married
Cecil DOHM 20 February
1966 and she died 5 October 1999 in Lenawee County, MI, as Martha Hannah
DOHM.
Ralph Densil MODEN
and Mary B. FREE had a son that they named Gerald MODEN born
_(day) (month) 1909(?) in __(place)__. Gerald took his own life in 1956
in __(place)__. Ralph and Mary Comfort SIMPSON had two children
the first of whom, Della June MODEN, died at birth. The second was

Evelyn MODEN born 4 February 1921 in Wauseon, Fulton County, OH. Ruth
grew up in Wauseon, attended school there graduating in 1939, and married
Victor Jack RUFFER, the son of Victor Guy RUFFER and Halcyon
Gertrude HULL of nearby Archbold, Fulton County, OH, on 4 February
1941 in Greensboro, NC (yes she was married on her birthday, it?s not a
typo). Ruth Evelyn RUFFER changed her name to Ruth Ann RUFFER
in Fulton County Probate Court on 28 September 1942. Ruth Ann and Victor
(known as Jack) had three children: Jack Arden RUFFER born 3 October
1941 Providence Hospital in Washington, D.C.; James Allen RUFFER
born 19 February 1943 at Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C.;
Marysue Halcyon RUFFER born 4 December 1950 at March Air Force Base
near Riverside, Riverside County, CA. Ruth Ann RUFFER died of small
cell lung cancer on 7 December 1996 in San Antonio, Bexar Co, TX. Victor
Jack RUFFER, a retired U. S. Air Force pilot, died of adenocarcinoma
lung cancer on 30 August 2000 in San Antonio, Bexar Co, TX. They were buried
together at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

married Patricia Lue TULLIS on 24 February 1962 in San Bernardino,
San Bernardino County, CA. They had three children: Teresa Luanne RUFFER
born 30 September 1962 at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Oakland, Alameda County,
CA; Susan Michelle RUFFER born 20 August 1963 at U. S. Naval Hospital,
Oakland, Alameda County, CA; Gregory David RUFFER born 27 January
1966 at the U. S. Naval Hospital, Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, near
Jacksonville, Onslow County, NC. A retired U. S. Marine Corps officer,
Jack and his wife Patricia reside in Palm Desert, CA.

Note to Loren: There is yet another generation of twenty-eight children (the 14th generation of the RUFFER Family since 1550 in Jegenstorf, Switzerland) ranging from twenty-one years of age (a college senior) to the youngest who was born a couple of weeks ago. I can provide all those names, dates and places of birth if you wish. Six of them are my grandchildren. The other twenty-two are my brother's. Sue and Ken have no children.
