The TODD Lineage of the BIDDLES

1. THOMAS TODD, ancestor of the BIDDLE and TODD families, came from

England to Maryland in 1651. He set-,led on the Severn River, near Annapolis.

On July 8, 1651, a tract of 100 acres was surveyed to him called "TODD", on

the south side of the Severn. Oct. 27, 1651, another 200 acres was laid out

for "THOMAS TODD", planter of Amme Arundel Co., located on the west side of

the Chesapeak River. He died about 1671. His 2nd son:

2. LANCELOT TODD, was of age 1671. He dated his will Feb. 28, 1690,

church. There RACHEL TODD, according to the old TODD Bible, was b Dec. 25,1771.

wonderful record of his TODD ancestors. According to history and family tradition,

JOHN TODD, uncle of RACHEL TODD, as a teenager, served in the late years

of the Revolutionary War, then moved to Fayette Co, Pa. and into Beaver Co.

near his nephew, SAMUEL. JOHN TODD had a son:

BIDDLE FAMILIES

There seems to be two main families who were early settlers within a few

miles of Delta, One was JOEL BIDDLE, b in N.J., who evidently was descended

from WM. BIDDLE, an early settler in N.J. who fled to America, having been a

soldier in Cromwell's army in England. One of his descendants lives in

Liberty Center, OH. I often find a record of a BIDDLE among the births and mar-

riages that does not belong to the BIDDLE family from Beaver Co., Pa. who mi-

grated early to Wayne Co., OH. then into Fulton Co. beginning about 1838 when

SAMUEL BIDDLE first came to York Twp. He built a cabin early and his descend-

ants are numerous in Fulton Co. today. He was followed by his sister,

CHRISTINA, and her husband, VALENTINE HAY, and then brothers, JACOB and

GEORGE BIDDLE.

This BIDDLE family are distantly related to BESSIE WARFIELD SIMPSON, the

wife of Edward, King of England, who is now deceased. Edward went into retire-

ment from the throne of England rather than give up his wife. Mrs. SIMPSON'S

parents were TEACKLE WALLIS WARFIELD and ALICE MONTAGUE.

WARFIELD-TODD-BIDDLE's

1. RICHARD WARFIELD came from England and settled by 1660 in Anne Arundel Co.,

Md. He was b about 1640, and 1670 he m ELEANOR BROWN, dau. of JOHN BROWN,

known as CAPT. BROWNE, from London, Eng., who with his brother, CAPT. PERE-

GRINE BROWNE, owned 2 of the finest merchant ships sailing between London and

the Chesapeak Bay settlements. RICHARD left a will naming his heirs, and son;

2. ALEXANDER WARFIELD, b 1677, m SARAH PEIRPONT, a dau. of HENRY

PIERPONT early settler to Md. and his wife, ELIZABETH_____. ALEXANDER was

vestryman for St. Anne's Parish, 1715-28. He died 1740, leaving a will and.

3. RACHEL WARFIELD,

b ca 1713, was mentioned in the will of her Uncle BENJAMIN WARFIELD, 1717.

RACHEL m LANCELOT TODD, a son of JOHN TODD and KATHERINE SMITH, and the

grandson of LANCELOT TODD who m SARAH PHELPS. The TODD family were early

settlers in Anne Arundel Co., Md. RACHEL and LANCELOT TODD were m Mov. 13, 1735.

Their oldest child:

4. AIEXANDER TODD, moved to Frederick Co. Md. He was b Sept. 7,

1736 and d before 1808, when his widow signed her will. ALEXANDER served in

the Md. Militia during the Revolutionary War and his name is listed in the

D.A.R. INDEX of Patriots. He m RACHEL_____ who signed her will May 7,

1808, and proved Feb. 9, 1809. 11 children. 5. As he was a Revolutionary

War soldier, I will give the names of the children: BENJAMIN, BASEL, ELIZABETH,

SAMUEL, ALEXANDER, JOSHUA, RACHEL who m June 24, 1791 JACOB

BIDDLE, WARFIELD, LUCY, SUSANNA and ELEANOR. Several children migrated to

Beaver Co.,Pa. by 1810. 6. RACHEL TODD, b Md. ca 1771, d in Ohio near Wooster about

1842.

JACOB BIDDLE, b in Md., was a son of ANDREW BIDDLE and CHRISTINA COVER.

ANDREW was a wagon master, carrying supplies during the Revolutionary War.

Several descendants in Fulton Co. have joined the Wauseon Chapter of the D.A.R.

on the war service of ANDREW BIDDLE, he moved about 1795-96 to Woodford Twp.,

Bedford-Hiintingdon Co., Pa. border, where he died in 1812. After his death,

JACOB BIDDLE joined his brother-in-law, SAMUEL TODD, in Beaver Co., Pa. The

will of JACOB BIDDLE is very interesting and he mentioned having a red-white-

blue coverlet that he willed to his son, ALEXANDER BIDDLE. The children of

JACOB BIDDLE and RACHEL TODD are important to Fulton County as early settlers.
